Testing Flickr Video

As you may know, Flickr now allows to upload videos too. As many people have already said, why would anybody use this new feature, when Internet is full of video hosting services, like YouTube, DailyMotion, etc?

Well, I'll tell you why. In my opinion, YouTube is good for video sharing. Is perfect for people who wants to upload videos and have fun or get some popularity. It's perfect for educational videos, like Google's TechTalks. And it is also very good for music videos, tv shows or any kind of video...

Or maybe not for all kinds? Exactly. Where YouTube is weak, Flickr is very strong: personal content. Flickr is wonderful to store all your personal pictures. Things that you do in your life. It's wonderful to organize your pictures and to review your life. What did you do last month, last year... places where you went or people you met. At least the way I use it and I think all my friends use it the same way. It's a family album!

Now... we also have family or personal videos. In my case, it happens that when I go to a family dinner, for example, I end up taking pictures but also one or a few short videos. Would YouTube be a good place for this personal videos? No, at least not for me.

I have uploaded a few videos to YouTube since I got my account a long time ago (two years, maybe?) My videos don't fit there. They are too personal. Most of them are videos that I would share only with my friends or family, like I do with my Flickr pictures. Also, I would like to have those videos I took on the family dinner in the same place where I have my pictures, not on a different website.

So yes, I think Flickr Video is a very good idea, at least for people like me :) I just uploaded my first video and I'm pretty impressed of how well it works and integrates with Flickr's interface.

Here it is... enjoy!
